Still searching, after all these years

Hello, All! I just wanted to check in and let you know that I am still alive and still researching...just not so good at posting.... I have used this time of pandemic induced "Social Distancing" (which is mostly like all my other days), to really dive into my McGonigles & Variants surname study, I have been working my way, state by state, trudging along, hoping towards country-by-country eventually. I've added about 4000 new names in just the last few weeks. I have indeed been a busy bee. I hope to keep at it, and eventually get back to posting here, and to really start posting on the McGonigles blog. A surname study is alot to contend with, thats for sure. As I grow the numbers, I realize I need to develop better systems for helping to identify lines, etc.... ways to make sorting things easier at a glance. Alas, I have not yet found the system that works for me. I welcome any suggestions! For now, I will keep busy, and keep isolated (as I am immunocompromised, so at greater risk to infection), while wishing you safety, happiness, and sanity.... while i spend way too much time having conversations with myself and my cats, while we leave the husband to work in peace from home. :D

Local Mention: James Alexander

James Alexander, well known in this city as "Punch," died at the Suffolk County Jail on Charles Street, Sunday morning, whither he had been sent from East Boston, the charge against him being larceny. Alexander was about 30 years old.

This man is my Great Great Grandfather, who we knew as John Alexander. He was an actor in the Punch & Judy show, and apparently made up his info as he went along. I've got his death record, and this writeup now. Still no origins, but at least we have an ending.

   Born and raised in Roxbury, Mrs Dutra had lived in Exeter for the past 25 years.
   She was a graduate of Roxbury High School.
   She was an avid reader enjoyed visiting the public library and volunteered at the Exeter schools by reading books to children. She also enjoyed Bingo.
   Wife of the late John P Mrs Dutra is survived by four sons Robert Stoddard of Junction City, Kansas, William J Stoddard of Hampton NH, John T of Tampa Fla, and Laurence of Weymouth; a daughter Janice A Stoddard of Weymouth; a sister Noani Civita of Fitchburg; a brother James Murphy of Fitchburg, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
   A Funeral service will be held at 11 am tomorrow at Brewitt Funeral Home.
   Burial will be in Exeter Cemetery, Exeter.

   Mrs Basteri was born in Somerville.
   She worked as an administrative assistant for IBM.
   She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Basteri) Richards and Kerry Cappucci; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
    A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday at St Agnes Church, Arlington.

   Born and raised in Somerville, Ms Emerson resided in Arlington.
   She retired as an administrative assistant for Littman Stethoscopes in Boston.
   Ms Emerson is survived by her brother Arthur Brown of California; and several nieces and nephews.
   A Funeral service will be held at 12:15pm Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, Somerville.
   Burial will be private.

Maurice Sponzo, 92, exonerated wrongly accused teenager.
   SIMSBURY, Conn -- Retired Superior Court Judge Maurice J Sponzo, a key figure in a 1970s murder case that cleared a wrongly accused Falls Village teenager, has died.
   Judge Sponzo, who served as a one-man grand jury in an investigation that cleared Peter Reilly in the 1973 slaying of his mother, Barbara Gibbons, died Wednesday. He was 92.
   Reilly confessed to the slaying after intense interrogation by the state police and the 18-year-old was later convicted of first-degree manslaughter. Reilly recanted the confession while serving a 16 year prison sentence

   Born and raised in Lawrence, Mrs Rose had lived in Salem for more than 50 years.
   She was educated in Lawrence Schools
   Mrs. Rose was an assembler for AT&T in North Andover
   She was a communicant of Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem and the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Posts 8546 in Salem.
   She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and cooking.
   Mrs Rose is survived by her husband Frank, of Salem; a son, Francis B, of Davenport, Fla; a daughter; Charlene of Weare, NH; a brother, Bernard of Methuen; a sister, Marcelle of Bradford; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
   A funeral service will be held at 10 am tomorrow at Mary Queen of Peace Church, Salem.
   Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrence.

   Lynn - Carl H Doucette, 38 22 Lander Ave, died. Friday at Atlanticare Medical Center later a brief illness.

   Born in Lynn, son of Charlotte M (Doucette) Doucetter of Lynn and the late Henry A Doucette, he lived all his life in Lynn.

   He attended local school, graduating from Lynn Trade, and was active in Lynn Youth Hockey.

   Mr. Doucette was an automotive body technician for York Oldsmobile in Revere for eight years and was also a part time employee of Airborne Express in Boston for two years. He had previously worked for Peterson Ford.

   He also leaves two sons, Kevin C Doucette, and junior at English High, and Christopher R Doucette, a Grade 6 student at Bagnal Elementary School in Groveland: two sisters, Edith A Penwell of Chula Vista, Calif., and Elaine C Leopold of Lincoln, RI and several nieces and nephews.

   The funeral will be held Monday at 8 am, from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St, with a mass at 9 in St Joseph's Church.

Warren T Hannah Sr of Framingham, 87, business owner, vet

Warren T "Ward" Hanna Sr of Framingham, a business owner and World War II veteran, died Thursday at his home. He was 87.

orn in Natick, Mr Hanna was a graduate of Natick High School, where he was the captain of the footall and gold teams. He was also a member of the hockey team and served as a swimming instructor for the Red Cross. He attended the Rhode Island School of Design.

After graduation, Mr Hanna joined the Parachute Infantry and served at the parachute jump instructors' school at Fort Benning, Ga. He served with the 50 11th Airborne group immortalized in Stephen E Ambrose's book and HBO television series "Band Of Brothers." While in the airborne group, he tested and created different techniques on various parachute drop methods. He procured a patent for a quick-release device for use on parachute harnesses to allow the wearer to release their harness when hung up on trees.

After his military service, he founded the Worcester Air Conditioning Co in 1960. In 1986, he founded the Hard of Hearing Advocates, a non-profit designed to provide advocacy for hard-of-hearing people.

Mr Hanna is survived by his wife, H Patricia (Kincade); three sons, Warren Thomas Jr of Sherborn, Dana of Northboro and Gary of Del Ray Beach, Fla; and two grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am today in St Bridget's Church, Framingham.

     Mrs Mary Frances (Cirafice) Richardson, 79, died Monday in Salem Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Elwood C "Rich" Richardson, with who she had shared 51 years of marriage.
     Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Mahoney) Cirafice. She was raised in Nahant and lived there for 74 years. She was a 1937 graduate of Lynn Classical High and was a graduate of Burdett College.
     Mrs Richardson worked as a real estate broker.
     She was active in the St Thomas Aquinas Church Ladies Sodality, the Girls Scouts and the Infant of Prague Guild of Greater Lynn.
     In addition to her husband, Mrs Richardson leaves two sons, Michael Richardson of Califon, NJ, and Brian Richardson of Huntington Beach, Calif; a daughter Valerie Richardon-Moineau of Swampscott; a sister Helen Wright of Center Ossipee, NH; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
     She was also the mother of the late Maureen Richardson.
     The funeral will be held Saturday at 8:30am from the Solimine, Landergan and Rhodes Funeral Homes, followed at 9:30 by a funeral Mass in St Thomas the Aquinas Church in Nahant. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nahant.

     Born in Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of Abe and Hilda Mednick of Boynton Beach, Fla. She had lived in Marblehead and Salem for the past 25 years. She was a graduate of the University of Bridgeport and earned a Master's Degree from George Washington University.
     For the past 20 years, Mrs Promisel had owned and operated Designs by Breina, a residential and commercial interior design firm she rain from her home.
     She was a member of the American Society of Interior Designers, the Hadassah and the Sisterhood of the Temple Israel of Swampscott. A devoted fan of the arts, she enjoyed music and museums.
     In addition to her parents, Mrs Promisel leaves two sons, Robert S and Alan H Promisel, both of New York City.
     Funeral services will be held Friday at 10am at the Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapels, 10 Vinnin St, Salem.
     Burial will follow at Temple Israel of Swampscott Cemetery, Peabody

     Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Philip J, and Annie E (Belanger) LeBel. She had lived in Salem and Lynn, and then moved to Peabody where she resided for 50 years. She was a graduate of Salem High School and Salem Commercial College.

     Mrs Dunn had worked for General Electric in West Lynn. 

     She was a former member of St Ann's Church in Peabody and was also a Girl Scout and Brownie Leader.

     Mrs Dunn leavers her son, Daniel F Dunn Jr of Burlington; three daughters, Maureen E Ruggiero of Billerica, Diane V Doyle of Reading and Carole A Ware of Acton; and two grandchildren.

     She was the sister of the late Lois LeBel.

     The funeral will be held Friday at 8am from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Road, Billerica, followed by a funeral Mass in St Thomas's Church, Billerica.

     Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.

     She was the stepmother of the late Roy A Mageary Jr and Dorothy Colarusso.

Timothy Crowley - Deaths

I'm still trying to locate more information on my Timothy Crowley, b c 1822, Ireland, that married a Mary abt the same time, also Ireland. With such common names, it's not been easy. I know they were in Manchester, NH abt 1851, where son Dennis was born, then Worcester for the 1860 census. They had 4 known children, Dennis, Mary (born Springfield, according to Worcester records), Johanna (not found a birth for yet), and Catherine (born Worcester). I estimate Timothy died 1860-1870, as I could not place him on any census after 1860, though found a widowed Mary with a Kate, that fits, in Worcester in 1880.
